Haspel Releases Limited-Edition Archival Collection.

Haspel Clothing, the originator of the seersucker suit, delved into its archives to create a limited-edition tailored clothing and shirt collection to commemorate its 110th anniversary. The brand, owned and operated by the Haspel family for four generations, landed on five distinct, heritage-inflected silhouettes—all crafted in vintage-style, tea-stained seersucker fabrics. In tandem with this momentous anniversary, only 110 suits will be produced in each of the five models. Each suit will be numbered and feature a vintage Haspel label not used in decades by the brand.

“One hundred and ten years in business is an extraordinary accomplishment,” said Haspel CEO, and fourth-generation owner, Laurie Haspel Aronson. “We spent a lot of time thinking about how to celebrate this very important milestone. We ultimately decided on this limited-edition capsule collection to pay tribute to our rich brand history. It is also a great way to remake some of our classic silhouettes and update them in a new, modern way.”

The material is so well-suited to Washington, D.C., that in 1996, Mississippi Senator Trent Lott began the annual tradition of celebrating Seersucker Thursday on a warm day each June. His goal, according to the Senate Historical Office? To show that “the Senate isn’t just a bunch of dour folks wearing dark suits and—in the case of men—red or blue ties.” By 2004, women had joined the fashion show thanks to California Senator Dianne Feinstein. “I remember when Senator Trent Lott started National Seersucker Day in 1996 in an effort to encourage collegiality,” Feinstein says. “I was glad to play a small part then in getting the Senate women involved.”
